Letter 227 (1860) - no ms. Mrs. J. G. Holland lyrics

by

Emily Dickinson

How is your little Byron? Hope he gains his foot without losing his genius. Have heard it ably argued that the poet's genius lay in his foot - as the bee's prong and his song are concomitant. Are you stronger than these? To assault so minute a creature seems to me malign, unworthy of Nature - but the frost is no respecter of persons.

I should be glad to be with you, or to open your letter. Blossoms belong to the bee, if needs be by habeas corpus.

                                                                                                         Emily.
